Is that place in the reel worth the detour?

A practical way to evaluate an Instagram recommendation before building your day around it.

Name what caught your attention

Be specific about the reason you saved the reel. Was it the view, a particular meal, the atmosphere or the activity itself? That helps you decide whether the experience would still interest you without the editing and music.

This is an evaluation checklist. It is not a claim that we analyzed thousands of reels, visited the venues or measured customer outcomes.

Check that you have the right place

Send a public post to @holdmypin if you need help identifying its location. Compare the returned map link with the creator’s caption and visible clues.

Look for the correct city, branch and entrance. If the post names a general area rather than a venue, do not assume that a single result represents the whole experience.

Consider the cost of the detour

Check the journey from where you will actually be. A short clip can make a place feel nearby while omitting a long transfer, a queue or a booking requirement.

Ask whether the detour still makes sense if the weather is different or the venue is busy. Keep an alternative that fits the same part of the day.

Verify the details that can change

Confirm current hours, access and reservation requirements using the venue’s own channels. Look for the date and context of the original post. A beautiful reel can remain online long after an offer or arrangement changes.

  • Is the place correctly identified?
  • Is the original post still relevant?
  • Does the journey fit my day?
  • Have I checked the details with the venue?

Try it: decide whether a reel earns a detour

Choose a saved reel that would take you away from the rest of your day. Find the featured place through the DM flow or a direct search, then verify its address. Compare the total journey with the time you would actually spend there.

Write down what made it appealing and what evidence you still need. A beautiful view may be enough reason for you; a short clip cannot establish current access, crowd levels or how the visit will feel. Use the venue or relevant local authority for practical details, then decide whether the outing fits your preferences.

  • Check the post’s context and when it was published.
  • Confirm current access and any reservation requirements.
  • Keep the original appeal alongside the practical cost of reaching it.
