Find the original post when you can

A screenshot may preserve a beautiful view but lose the caption, location tag and link that explain where it is. Start by looking for the original saved post or the creator’s account.

The recommended Hold My Pin workflow uses a public Instagram reel, post or its link. This guide does not promise that uploading an arbitrary screenshot to the assistant will work.

Send the post, not a guess

When you find the public post, forward it to @holdmypin or paste its link in the DM conversation. The assistant uses the available content to look for places.

If you cannot find the original and the screenshot includes a clear venue name, try a direct map search with that name and city. Keep ambiguous results unconfirmed rather than forcing a match.

Connect the visual memory to the listing

Compare the map result with the original context. Check the business name and branch, then decide whether the place still interests you. A returned link can be useful without being a verified recommendation.

Keep a short note in your own list about why you saved the post. That can be more helpful later than an unexplained collection of map pins.

Make future saves easier

For the next reel that feels worth acting on, share it while its context is still in front of you. You can keep the Instagram bookmark for inspiration and the checked map listing for planning.

Do not feel you need to clear your entire camera roll. Start with the few places that could become a real plan and build from there.

Try it: recover one screenshot worth keeping

Open a screenshot of a place you still want to visit. Look for the creator’s handle, a venue name or a location tag, then try to find the original public Instagram post. If you recover the post, share that link with @holdmypin rather than sending the screenshot as the source.

If all you have is a clear business name and city, search Maps directly and compare the listing. When the clues are insufficient, keep the screenshot as inspiration without treating a guessed address as confirmed. Once you identify the place, save the listing and the original source together in your planning notes.

  • Recover the original post where possible.
  • Check the city and branch before saving.
  • Keep the visual detail that made the screenshot useful to you.
