The comparison / Mapstr

A map app or an Instagram conversation?

Mapstr and Hold My Pin can both help you turn social discoveries into places. The useful distinction is how you want to collect and use them.

Mapstr is more than manual bookmarking

Mapstr’s documentation describes importing addresses from Instagram and TikTok content, as well as articles. It also describes organizing addresses with tags and importing existing Google Maps lists.

That means the choice is not simply manual saving versus AI extraction. Both workflows can begin with social content. Check Mapstr’s current app and documentation for availability, limits and pricing.

Hold My Pin starts with a DM

Follow @holdmypin and forward a public Instagram reel or post. The assistant attempts to identify places and sends Google Maps links back to the conversation when it finds results.

You do not need a separate Hold My Pin app to try that flow. Open and verify the returned listing, then save it in your own map app if you want to keep it. Usage limits apply.

Choose where you want the collection to live

If you want a dedicated app for maintaining a tagged map collection, explore Mapstr’s organizing workflow. If you want to send a reel from Instagram and check the result in Google Maps, try Hold My Pin’s DM workflow.

For either service, test it with the kind of posts you actually save. Compare the location result with the original content, especially for businesses with multiple branches.

What this comparison does not measure

This is a comparison of documented workflows, reviewed in September 2026. It is not an accuracy benchmark or a claim that one service is faster.

Product features and pricing can change. Review the linked documentation before choosing a paid plan, and treat extracted places as results to check rather than verified recommendations.

Find your fit

Consider Mapstr if you want a dedicated map collection and its organizing tools. Try Hold My Pin if you want to start in an Instagram DM and receive Google Maps links there.
